  • The Artist: GEORGE MUSCAT

George Muscat was born in Qormi in 1962. He was tutored by one of Malta's foremost ceramists, Gabriel Caruana, in the 1970s, in addition to his participation in a number of local and international art workshops.

George's art is very experimental and apart from being totally in control of the firing process, he develops his own brand of glazes. He uses several different firing techniques but is very much renowned for his raku technique, which he introduced at the MCAST Institute of Art and Design. He was one of the founding members of the Malta Raku Association and continuously imparts his knowledge of the technique and art to upcoming ceramists.

George's art ranges from decorative plates to nudes, abstract pieces and murals. He takes his inspiration from nature and the environment and the human body, but deforms and manipulates the shapes to his own imagination and liking.

Muscat has held several solo exhibitions and participated in numerous collective exhibitions both in Malta and internationally.
